See for yourself how John Marshall Jones is currently using his own program to master the audition:

Monday June 18th, 2007

Dear JJ,

We have an appointment for you on Monday at 5:15pm. Sides are attached, please call or email to confirm.

The following contains meeting information for: Dexter

Client: John Marshall Jones

Date: Monday, June 18, 2007

Time: 5:15 PM

Status: Gave to Manager

Role: Curtis Rogers

African American, 40’s, athletic. A former Special Ops fighter who disappears after his wife is killed. GUEST LEAD.
My Blog:Audition, Dexter – Role/ Curtis- Sunset Gower Studio

I feel pretty good about the material. I like the writing. I’m ready. I put in enough time. I know my relationships, etc.(chapter 10).

Read for the CD and Director. When I saw the video camera I realized I had to make some adjustments. Positioned the chair so they could see my eyes. Brought my performance style down, quiet, minimal. Trusted my instrument.

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Dear JJ ,

The producers would like to see you again for the role of Curtis on

“Dexter.” They would like to see you bring a more elegant feel to the character, this character is former Special Ops but has gone back to further his education. Please call us with any questions.
My Blog:Got a callback for Friday. They gave me a note that they’d like for the character to be more “elegant”. He’s a special ops soldier that murders his wife, how do I make him “elegant”? What exactly does that mean? ( Referred to Chapter18 of ‘7 Days To A Great Audition”, Translating Director Language into Actor Language.) Makes sense now.

Friday

Callback. Used my personal history to create a character who has a sense of vulnerability and paid particular attention to his articulation. Started the callback. Thirty secs in director stopped me, told me he wanted the character to be more authoritative. I ask if I could have a moment (chapter 17), made my adjustment in 15 seconds (chapter 18), finished the audition. I feel like I connected with the director.

Monday, June 25th, 2007

(From my manager) B.K. head of casting at SHOWTIME signed off on you so she knows you which I am very pleased about.
MY BLOG:
